Polishing Theft

dear all lao jiaos,

pardon me noob. just wondering when we sent our watch to those watch specialist for polish, is it safe? wondering if they will remove the genuine parts from our watch then replace with fake, old or even faulty one?
if yes, die liao. how are we suppose to check?

If you afraid they change your parts, sit there and wait for them to do it... normally wouldn't take more than half an hour....

If it is a concern, then go to the authorize service center for polishing...

If really so afraid... don't polish and leave it lor..

If you were to go to a pre-own shop for polishing or servicing they normally will do it in the back-room so really dont really have chance to see what they doing.

If the shop owner is friendly enough and you have bought a few watches from him, he will let you sit there while he polishes your watch. BTW, these people polish watches for a living not stealing....

yes.... they will be happy to polish the watch for you. When you are happy, you will buy more watch from them...

im just being paranoid. recently, i sent in a 6694 for authentication, guess what? some parts are not original, so what happen to the original parts? this is not the first time i encounter non original parts in a 6694, previously, there were non original glass, non original hands.

i do not know if the watch was ever serviced outside RSC, i do not know if the watch was polished outside RSC. honestly speaking, when u send in a watch to places outside service centres, you have to take a risk.

yes, people will always tell you it is cheaper to service a rolex or polish a rolex outside RSC. but we all know that there are many watch repairers servicing rolex. but where do they get the parts from? i dont know.

to me if i spend 1k on a watch, i dont mind sending it to outside servicing centre. but if i spend 10k on a watch, i will send it back to service centres. im not willing to take a risk.

remember, they have to strip the watch movement out of the case before they can polish. what if they do not assemble it properly back? if something goes wrong, u go back to them to get them to fix it? can they fix it? if it is a complicated movement, are they experience enough to fix it? i dont know.......

i rather send it back to service centre and not worry. yes, i pay higher price but at least i have a piece of mind. i dont have to worry. if anything goes wrong after collecting the watch, i can always send it back.

let the watch as it is. no point sending it for polish when it won't calm yr nerves but make it worse but imagining things.

i confirm and agree with triton's statement pertaining to the removing of the entire movement when the watch is being polished.

if it's a mortar & brick movement like eta or 7750, i am sure there are several proficient watch technicians who are up to the task of servicing it.

i however cannot imagine anyone being able to effectively service a ome** 3133 movement when it's own technicians cannot even solve the issue.

what's even worse is that the watches are still being manufactured & sold on the market yr after yr.
