IMVHO...since I'm quite a newbie myself in the world of horology...
I think if u've bothered to ask here...an auto would be the way to go.
If like my bro-in-law who doesn't care/know much abt watches, he's happy with his quartz Aqua Terra...

      Ask yourself the following questions:

Q: Are you interested in the movement of the watch? Does words like 'free balance spring' or 'co-axial movement' perk your interest?
A: If no, buy a quartz

Q: Are you planning to wear your watch everyday? Do you go about 2-3 days without wearing your watch?
A: If Yes for both, are you comfortable with the need to reset the watch and wind it? If no, buy a quartz

Q: Does having a sweeping second hand have any effect on your watch buying decision?
A: If no, quartz or auto doesn't have a difference to you.

Q:Are you comfortable with the need to service the watch every 4-5 years? (About S$400 each time)
A: If Yes, an auto will be fine. Else, stick to quartz

And most importantly, are you buying an Omega watch due to the design and craftmanship or are you just buying the watch as it is an Omega? If you are just buying the watch due to the brand and like the idea of an Omega watch, buy a Quartz.

By the way, I was wondering whether there was a thickness difference between the Seamaster Auto/Quartz (typically Quartz watches are thinner than automatic. Unless you are talking about Pateks! :P) and I found this link.

Probably answer most of your questions.
