Great article. But it seems that in a Rolex forum, most people are still more interested in Rolex than Grand Seiko...

i'd agreed, indeed GS quality is way far better than most of mid range swiss watch. in terms of in house, quality and finishing, and the price you paid is quality instead of brand new/advertisement/ambassador itself

sadly said, maybe the seiko name itself are just not "grand" enough, yet

Rolex indeed has a really strong branding in the world of horology
as for GS, some people said that only true WIS buy GS lol

Not an expert in movement but comparing a Rolex Date and GS SBGR023. GS has a better quality and finishing.

In many ways, comparing Grand Seiko with Rolex in watches is like comparing Lexus with BMW in cars.

It takes time to build the branding up. Take example Lexus, it also started off as a nobody. But now it can take on known brands like Mercedes or BMW.

I have always wanted to own a GS. For the price of a Rolex, I can buy a watch which is hand made and tested by tests which are more stringent the COSC. Last but not least, a GS is a GS. No imitations, no fakes.

Wanted to settle for this perfect movement that no swiss brand able to compete, but decided not to due to the pricing that can get a Rolex.
Both shows the same time, Seiko sell it as a piece of technology, top swiss brand sell it as a piece of jewelry.
Jewelry retain value over time, technology keep changing over time.

This is interesting .. but Rolex stainless steel doesn't look like jewellery
