  • Damaged jewels

I recently serviced by day/date 18k gent's. The technician reported that 2 jewels were damaged and had to be replaced. My question is that can the jewels crack/break on their own? My watch never had any hard knocks and is seldom worn for the last 20 years! It is in excellent condition. Thought it needed a regular service just to keep it is tip top shape. But see what happened!

see those red/purple components? these are the "jewels"...... they are non-movable parts and are used for lubrication at pivoting points for other moving components....
