But this pretty much depending on individual model as well as watch condition. Individual model may fetch higher or lesser.

Lets say that particular model that purchased has been shoot up to sky high. You may get back 100% of your purchase price (you earn from wearing the watch for free) or you earn extra.

Lets talk about my SS Sub Date that I had purchased in 2005 at $6875 out from the local AD. 3 years later 2008, the watch easily can fetch >$5500 and therefore I lost $1375 and it's about 20%. Compare to other brand of watches, you may NOT even get back 50% of the buy price.

As I had mentioned earlier, very much depending on the condition of the watch. Is it serviced, with/without paper & box and model that demand in the market. In my opinion, SPORT model probably hold the value better.

    Cheerio,
Agree n disagree. I dun think te situation in para 2 happens often, may b nt at all(in our lifetime), unless u r damn-damn lucky. Te 3rd para is definitely a gd gauge n live example of how a watch depreciates over time. I'm nt as fortunate as Lee n has no experience wif buying/selling a ROLEX at tis point. I only recently own 1 n am still enjoying the ownership. However, I hv tis to share which I was told by a gd friend when I was seeking advice b4 I bought my ROLEX:

He compared betwn ROLEX n TAGh, "two TAGhs can't even match up to the resale price of 1 ROLEX". He meant tat if one buys a TAGh for example, $5k, n sells after 1 yr to a 2nd hand dealer, he may only get back 30% or far lesser than tat. However if te watch is a $5k ROLEX, te resale is definitely higher, say, may b betwen 50-75%."

Well, tats wat he told me. How true? I still hvnt yet discover.

wow 50% buyback after 2 to 4 years seems really low even for omegas...
was quoted 3.8k for a supposedly mint 1++ year old planet ocean(initial quote though, din talk to them much)... damn.... the preowned shops trying to rip me off....

am thinking of getting a PO or railmaster preowned since omegas dun hold value well, relative to rollies...

started a topic how the brands depreciate??

    how the brands depreciate??

we all know rolex hold the values well, but how "well is well"?
am toking abt normal production runs, the mainstream models...

lets look at the not-so-old(~2 to 4 years) preowned market as a comparison to a the what we'll pay the ADs shall we?

purpose of it is to let us have a feel of whether its a wide gap to cross to get it brand new(for the brand new box smell)...

lets say we get a SD at a couple of hundreds off the RRP from an AD, how much would a 3 years old SD in reasonably well condition cost?

in contrast, how do the other brands perform??? omegas? pannies?

    am really interested in this
