SGROC Fishing thread

tis place is where all the boat currently berth, the old place is being demolish to make way for new 1.

boat charges rm 900 to 1k for day charter, usually 8am to 5pm. comfortably abt 3 to 5 pp per boat.

there's abt 6 to 8 rooms in this place. 2 bed,3bed, 5bed all price at abt rm120.. cant rem which room got no bath attached.

if wanna go for trip ( 1 day fishing ):

xiong way - drive into JB @ abt 5+am, reach rompin abt 9am, board boat fish til abt 5pm, drv bck at 7. reach spore abt 10+pm

relax- drive in the night b4, stay overnight. fish next day and bck to sg

like tht min leave required.

thn drive to another resort, which is abt 5km north of the town. tis place also nearer to those fishing boat jetty.

took afew pics, not too bad, the cheapest hotel = chalet abt rm180.
rooms in the resort abt rm250 i think.

tis hotel also quiet quiet, but i think it's cos now off season, in june ( mysia & sg holiday ) more ppl, also sailfish season which is after aug to abt nov.

drove up couple of wks ago.

pop in to take alook at tis hotel. abt 15km north of rompin town.
summerset. wow .. like ghost town.
walk ard, dont see ppl. took few pictures.

- 2 xzoga,
- 1 shimano blue rose
- 1 majorcraft spin jig
and 1 accurate reels and some other tackle stuffs

redoing my fish equip cab, to house more
looking at another couple of rods, zenaq, fisherman & smith.

the last time i there, the sjr 723 price at 370... dunno abt the lower spec.
st croix is nice... but not into buying light tackle... hehee

i jst got rid of 5 rods today hahahahha ... all cheap 1s...

shiok, now got more space for more new toys.

i rather sell u 200 thn the guy at fk... hahaha

as for the sail. take leave lah, ... maybe take tues and wed...Eg. leave monday evening, reach there zzz hotel, tues morning go hammer, tues nite zz hotel, wed go hammer again, evening drv bck.... wkend very hard to book leh, alot of ppl go pop pop wkend...

I have never tried the higher end st croix, only the old old stuff which i'm not impressed. However, the higher end range seem to receive good feedbacks. You more into "broomstick" lah...

Yeah, weekend are generally very popular. Probably the good dates are all booked liao. If take 2 days, then i must seriously rationed my leave liao. Took alot for my upcoming Egypt trip liao. Keep me posted then when you got more firm plans.

Hey pet, thanks for the pics. From the pics, it looks like you did some sharping to the cork handle. Am i right?

Me no expert lah, juz research a lot about it during my younger days when i'm more siao onz with fishing. I prefers the older series/model, with IMX being top of my list.

I'm not sure with the local price anymore. I think Theresa don't work at Hock Heng anymore so can't get more discount liao. Haha.

Assuming IMX, depending on model and conditions... The price usually range from 200-280, anything more than 300 is slow to move. Nowadays, fishing folks seem to either go for the affordable off the shelf brands or high end japanese rods liao. Others prefer St Croix to Gloomis. Gloomis is considered overpriced, old school technology liao... But i still like... I'm old sch, me and my IMX and Abu 1500/2500. Haha.

Mine is red eva one. Well, i'm sucker for Gloomis rods so will strike if i can get them at good prices, but usually stuffs that i will use of course. Majority of my remaining rods are Gloomis. Hehe

i last dive almost 10 yrs leow... hahaha.... ask me go look at fish, i rather wreck the **** outta of them... hahaha

I go diving to look at the fish, take naked pictures of the fish and hopefully can land myself some pretty looking "fish" during the surface interval. Haha!

no lah, usually i bring 2 set, sometimes more if frd dont hv. the alutecnos i like leh, cos got abt 20kg drag, loaded with 100lbs braid, but over kill ard sg, my & tp waters.

but i like tht oj4k, cos higher drag also got lock mechanism

i bought my stella SW 8k from riverland, quite ex leh, cost me 1.2+ K... NNB ay, but i like it, dont want another stella, want a 5 k range.
rompin, me & my frd thinking of going up, want to get 1 to 2 kaki ( total 3 - 4 ppl ) enough, drv one small little car more thn enough for all... but got to wait til sep - nov... likely wkdays, cos less ppl, drv up save on transport, just makan, hotel room + boat... should be quite affordable. dunno ah oh, andrw or any other bro here want to go or not...

Well, if you have plans to target bigger fishes then maybe its good to keep the reel. I have kinda narrowed down the type of fishing that i will do so have clears those redundant stuffs.

Aiyah, got oj2k doesn't mean cannot get the oj4k mah. The drag is good, cranking is powerful and smooth and look nice. Just need to remember to rinse the reel after use and unspool lines during storage. For that similar reason, i'm using my Conquests for most of my fishing nowadays. Abu 1500/2500 are all in display now. I love the Abus!

Stellas are lovely but always burned a hole in the pocket. For 5k range, Daiwa FreamJ 4500 is cheap and good. Good enough for sailfish trip liao.

Yeah, self drive trip will bring down the cost. However, heading up on wkdays will probably be a problem for most of us. Unlike you lah, towkay dunid to worry.

I think the brand new jigwrex is around $240+/- now.

Waw, you bring so much gears out for OS ah. I have trimmed down my gear by alot, esp since i don't fish much nowadays. From your current list, if its me, i would probably keep the saltiga 20, oj2000 and stella 8k and sell the rest.

i also hv exact same spec 1 custom, but it's printed SLATE... this one which i wnt to sell is original g.loomis factory rod which is printed IMX. my frd sold his gloomis at fk, after tht still got enquires from a guy, so he refer him to me. he offer 200. i didnt meet him, jst pm photo... i am considering ... hee ... selling things headache ah... hahahha.
