I jst went yesterday night, lousy lah... went there close to 12midnight. fish until morning... now my eyes hum hum again... hahhaa

Well, i wont say overkill lah, depending on yr target is. it's impossible to know wht fish u gonna to get, and use the right fun rod for it... hahaha... my frd is those tht hamtham gpa only, on monday night, gpa at least 5 to 7 kg hook up, fight til less thn 1m frm edge 40lbs leader broke... damn sayang.
usually our targets near those 'kelong' ... so light tackle & light poundage got problem, rod not 'stiff' enough, jst cant whack it out of those obstacle ..

Yupz, you are right. Gotto match the gears to the target fish. Then got more excuse to buy more gears.

my frd also use gloomis... after u guys poison, LL i just place order for a G-Loomis SJR723S IMX. 6', 6 - 15lbs line.

The newer St. Croix look nice but i have never tried. Seem like more expensive than Gloomis too, esp if you are customising it.

I guess you will slowly phase out all these gears. That happen to me after my first Gloomis.

i also quite bad at baitcast.... sama sama, now i use it for boat fishing to catch sotong with a 4' rod... hahaha

Catch sotongs on your TP trips? To catch bigger ang chors?

well, i kiasu lah. i used to have 3 g-loomis rod, 10-17lb IMX which was broke last yr while fishing at the main pond, been with me for more than 10 yrs.

my 12-20lb g-loomis GL3 is now my main rod for pond fishing. i have another 14-25lb GL3 for lure fishing when i am out hunting grouper. cannot give those dirty player grouper chance to swim into rocks.

so bro, when u want to go fishing? after that, can jio pet to LSB lah.

Oic, can do a claim for your 10-17lb IMX mah. Pay for the freight and get a brand new piece, best if you can consolidate a few more rods to share the freight cost.

14-25lb i oso got, GL3 C665. Are we having the same rod? I used it for lure fishing for grouper too, good old day in Sentosa cove. Hehe.

Nowadays, me still scanning for good 2nd hand deal for such rods too, juz buy and keep first. The new Slate/Mahogany range doesnt feel right anymore.

This Sat maybe can, else the next possible time is 3rd week for Jun liao. WORK WORK WORK!!

by the way, i do have baitcasters. but i am not good at casting using it. so only use them for boat fishing when i dun have to cast, just lower the line...hehe. so far, i did not bring my conquest to the pond, later fried bee hoon ah.

I love baitcasters thou i haven't use mine for a long time. Used to cast live prawns with baitcasters too until all the barras all gone liao. I'm using conquest too, slowly retiring my workhorse Abu 2500CI, been serving me well for more than 10yrs already. Collecting Abu 1500/2500, so if you got any for sale and good price, gimme a buzz.

Don't worry too much about bee hoon, the more you use it, the better you become. Juz need to educate your finger on the FINGERING part can liao...

If you like stiff and fast actions rods, then can look at Gloomis IMX or GLX. Both offer you such characteristics, light somemore. If you lazy to custom build, then can check out their off-the-shelf SpinJig(SJR) series, nice. St croix me not very familar, only got one old baitcaster.
I usually spend more on rods and baitcasters. Oh yes, quite a fair bit on plastics too. Don't really like to use spinning reels so mine mostly less than $100 small reels.

Me using GLoomis 4-8lb (3pcs) or Sage 4-10lb (3pcs) for ponds now. Lazy to carry 1pc rods nowadays.

nvr really believe in good pond rod( usually dont spend more thn $90 for pond rod, ave about $60/ rod; offshore 1s, yes, averaging about $300 )... hahhaa... very difficult to find 1 i really like, i prefer stiff 1s.. too flex dont like ( bckbone strong, tip dont flex too much ) .. hehee... ... reel, i usually use daiwa certate 2500 or caldia kix 2000; got biomaster 2000shimano ( dont like ).
