  • Radio & TV licence: What a waste of money

I just got my bill for radio & TV licence today from MDA (courtesy of IRAS) - $110.

You think free-to-air is really FREE?
Got me thinking... what a glorious waste of money.
    that's about $9/month.

While I appreciate that the free-to-air in Singapore is of better quality than those in some other countries, starhub TV is costing me $20ish a month for more channels and better content ...

... compared to the lousy content and lame local drama that the $9/month buys.

If I can get rid of the radio/tv licence and save $9/month ... I don't mind watching only cable. I don't miss all the local news... reading it free in TODAY is all the local news I need to know.

tv licence = having a tv @ home.

this has nothing to do with watching free over the air channels.

there was once i wrote in to tell them that my house got no tv. they can come and check if they want, i dont have a tv @ home.

clue : it is how you wire up your equipment. cannot be too obvious. later everyone follow. hehe.

not being rude, but i think sg tv sucks. the content is lousy, the drama is dubbed (as per gov't policies), the news is almost like cctv (china central tv ).

having said all that, aussie tv sucks too. besides some of the few tv shows, i rarely turn watch my "tv" (tv tuner for mac).

when i went back to sg, my auntie got starhub installed, and i rarely watch that too. all my shows are available online .

as of now: im watching top gear uk and thats it.

Dude ... get a few friends toghether and chip in $110 each, you can probably invite her to dinner and meet her in person .

As to the question of "its for the TV" ... well, MDA has said that its to promote the development of local content. Well, if that is true - we should hold them accountable for the rubbish they are making us watch at $9/month.

                    Red thread ?? C'mon ...

And OH ... I don't suppose any of our taxpayers dollars are going into that other colour-variation Blue Mansion ... I hope -

                    Rich tycoon story, different colour.

Lame. Lame . Lame. And no more love stories pls. How about serial killer stories for a change.

P/s - another fact that is well known but seldom repeated: Less than 20% of all adult Singaporeans pay any income tax at all.... I certainly expect more for my tax dollars!
