as for how am i involved? im not; but i know first hand how it is like to lose one to illicit drugs. (my auntie family friend - whom i know too!). but then, that i guess will be irrelevant.

Vui Kong’s appeal set for Jan 2011. Justice Chong ruled that the power to grant clemency “rests solely with the Cabinet” and that the President has no discretion in this. Justice Chong also laid down that the courts have no power to review the clemency process.

there will always be drug mules,,,,,,,,
there is currently the death penalty for drug traffickers,,,,,
the president is unlikely to pardon, the ministers/cabinet/MPs cannot be bothered,,,,,
whatever it is, don't think there is a second chance,,,,,, hope for miracle thats all we can hope if we don't want to see a life dismissed meaninglessly,,,,
in the near future, death penalty will still not abolished,,,,, those who intend to commit capital crime in singapore, go ahead, as like in the army, "you can do anything but don't get caught", and be prepared to face the consquences if you do,,,,,
there is no good, no bad,,,,, just the law of the country for the time being

And if HE forgives? Why does HE let so many suffer?
Now, get back on topic and do not drag this in to a religous thread.

imho, this isnt a discussion about being gd, bad or evil. its about seeing things in certain perspective..who wants to be a bad guy??
its very easy sitting here talking about being compassionate and forgiving and stuff, so whos gg to do the dirty job? u mean crooks murder for fun? every "bad" guy out there has a sad story, but frankly......its too bad. sounds bad? too bad too. facts of life, no excuse.
about being repentant? maybe, no comments here..but who isnt when they are arrested and they know they face the gallows?
frankly, i do sympathise with him..but like i said, no excuse.

also, its not just about the amount of drugs he brought in. you guys have to look at the bigger picture..its not jus about the drugs, robbers, snatch theft, robbing of the elderly, getting high and committing rape, getting into fights etc these are jus some other social problems that the govt have to consider. its a fact that the above mentioned crimes have some been linked to drug addicts
for those who have a good life (enjoying your beautiful timepieces) you will hardly or never see what life those people go through, jus becos the drug problem is somewat contolled in Singapore, we should not get complacent and tink its time to start sounding like angels..
my 2 cents..Originally posted by KuchingKu View PostI agree too. To be compassion is not just about pardoning people....it's also about upholding the system that would result in a greater good for all in the society.
The rules are clear and it is important for the gatekeepers to guide it else the system is at risk of failing. Thus, president's pardon is not something that should be used frequently. Every time it is used, it is actually a slap on the judicial judgement.
