  • Advise : on Gold plating strap end

    Hi, im new here.

i have an old watch(raymond weil) from my dad. its leather strap with gold buckle.
the strap is still a bit ok, but the buckle part has some green stuff(corossion) and looks bad.

can anyone advise where i can restore this part?
It's sentimental and i dont want it changed...

i understand a bit on gold plating, what i need is to coat it in 24k gold.
anything lesser and the corrosion will come back.

I just want quality... money not an issue.

P.S: hope this is the correct thread to post in....

cool, i called this guy, had to search for his HP no...

he said he does cars and car parts only. as for treasures he asked me to contact the main agent. he provided the contact no.

              called the main agent.
he explained that they use pure gold. cause pure gold is rust and corrosion resistant. something about the way gold is... huh?
              KNN i fail my chemistry.

well they can talk all they want, just show me the result...have appt with them lunch time...see how it goes.

before i go any advise on the recommended prices i should be expecting?

Just returned from goldgenie asia office.

Impressive! These guys really know their stuff.
one word of Advise: never send your items to be tank plated in the regular shops.
when u put in a tank to be plated the metal structure of the watch gets disturbed.

                i asked about micron thickness.
their answer: no point if they coat 50 microns with low quality gold... it does not last.
they use 99.9% gold with 5-10 microns. because pure gold does not rust, tarnish. (this i believe, saw a gold club with gold plated head, i could not scratch the gold out) they have a formula for amt of pure gold used for each item. so my watch would have 2-3 grms of gold.

they even have a HP gold plated thumbdrive....(i bought one) will upload picture when im back home.

will collect watch tmr... lets see how good they claim to be!!!!

                Thanks Darkangel for the link...
