Wow start to quote independent already liao. Can add more la, Still got voutilainen , speake marin, sarpaneva, claret or even french Silberstien whose unique design watched was quite popular in Sg about a decade ago.

JLC, Zenith, Breguet from the starting list and I will add Mont Blanc and Carl F Bucherer and perhaps Chopard.
A lot of the "popularity" is because of marketing dollars. Rolex has always been one of the top advertisers.
Also it can't be that popular with your wallet when it cost 6 figures and more.

Brands that needs more popularity (not in any order)
1) Ulysse Nardin
2) Zenith
3) Glashutte Original
4) Jaeger LeCoultre
5) Piaget
There are many other brands that deserve mentions too, such as Habring, Vianny Halter, Philippe Dufour, H. Moser, MB&F, De Bethune, but I think they should remain status quo, for they are independent watchmakers and they should remain relatively unknown to keep its novelty and exclusivity

U know why they get big bang? Cause the going to have BANGING session after getting the hublot. HahahaOriginally posted by alexlobov View PostHublot seriously? It's already on enough wrists, it's like every time an analyst investment banker gets promoted to associate the first thing he buys is a Big Bang. Ugh. Hate Hublot.

Frederique Constant is one of the companies that are hugely affected by the reduced supply of ETA movements/parts from the Swatch Group. In fact they are one of the nine companies that brought Swatch to court during 2011 but lost the case. There are some discussions in other forums on whether Frederique Constant actually develop their in-house movements entirely themselves and where those movements are produced.Originally posted by alexlobov View PostHublot seriously? I gotta vote for GP on this one, they really need to learn how to market.
Also I'm quite interested in Frederique Constant. A young brand trying to develop its own in-house movements.
If I had to pick another three then yeah Breguet, VC and Blancpain.
Nonetheless I agree they have been quite successful in growing their brand, considering that they used to be sold in SG many years ago next to some China-made Micky Mouse watches in gift shops.

i would like to include longines in your list. they are extremely good watches- and they have a great history. they were up there with omega etc back in the day. however, remember that watches are not just time machines but also fashion items. yes, fashion items. it is all about marketing.
for me i love jlc. favourite brand- not cheap too but it offer the best value for money and i like the philosophy of the brand and the styling.

I have always thought that some brands of watches deserve to appear on more wrists (I am not saying I am sick of rolex). So here is my list of the 5 that I think deserve higher popularity than what they have now:
1. JLC
2. Zenith
3. Breguet
4. Vacheron Constantin
5. Glashütte Original
One of the criteria is that the candidate is not already popular, which is why AP and IWC is not on the list as in my opinion they are quite popular (well, relatively so).
I also think that the entry model(s) of the brand should not be overly expensive otherwise they basically price themselves into a niche market (ya I know a bit weak in arguement for no. 3-5 in this aspect).
Finally the brand should also have good prestige (again in my personal opinion) which usually mean inhouse movement though not necessary so.
What's your pick?
(Let's skip the debate of what is expensive or not, hehe)

+1. Spot on there ducky. Grand Seiko for me =)Originally posted by turboducky View PostI would say it's

3. Breguet
4. Blancpain
5. Glashutte Original
6. Moser
Actually, I am glad these brands arent too popular cos it needs to retain some uniqueness & rarity. I guess the other reason we dont see many of these is most of the owners dont really need to sell to buy another piece.

Agree IWC is quite popular prob because its an easy price point for entry level. I love my Breguet and G-P, don't see too many of those around. Lange & Sohne should be more popular, again maybe a price issue?
Sorry but what's GO?
