  • Anyone compile a spreadsheet to record your watch purchases (and flipping costs)?

Just found a spreadsheet that i did a year ago of the purchase price of my watches (about 90% of all the watches i owned) since i started this hobby and P/L as a result of flipping/consolidation...it's a bit shocking how one spent $$ on watches unknowingly and how much one lost when watches were flipped. The $$ could have been used as a deposit for a private property, stock trading or pay off a brand new BMW/Merc.

While we enjoy the joy of the hobby...it's a wake up call when you sit down and look at the numbers..

    Cheers

    James

It depends if it is even worthwhile to compile/create and maintain such a 'spreadsheet' because for some (including myself), the amount gain/loss can't even match up to a one month car instalment . This is probably more appropriate for big spenders like the many (members) here (definitely not me)

        Me!
According to my excel spreadsheet, from Aug 2006 to today:
        a. 46 watches purchased and sold
        b. 7 watches remain to be sold
        c. 3 watches are presently keepers!

                used to do it.

but now, not really, i focus on the present.

                as at 2/11/12

                A. 5 watches bought and kept
                B. 1 to be sold eventually.
                C. 2 more to be acquired.
                Opportunities come once

Since this thread came up, I went to check my spreadsheet...

Total number of watches bought / sold: 77
                    Total still reminding : 10
Total P / L : definitely L as I see many more cells with minus sign. Dare not total them up with a formulae but suspect the amount to be 5 digits.
