Regular vistors from Singapore are often stayin away from JB for safety and also higher expenses cost. They are not difficult to get by being along the N-S expressway. For a weekend get away, try Melaka along stop by Yong Peng for seafood fuchuo style restaurant, Batu Pahat for sea food steam boat, spending a night 4-5 star hotel in Melaka never a costy thing to do too. Some who does not want to spend night in can opted for trip to Pengarang (confirm the spelling)... after Desaru for seafood with live lobster prepare in various style and cost you less than half the price of you spent in JB. Along for tropical fruit feast like durian, mangoteen n more.Last edited by Steffan; 06-07-08, 01:29 PM.

Hong Kong
Hong Kong's a great place for eating and shopping. For food, there's dim sum all day, superb wantan mee, fresh sashimi at great prices and variety (proximity to Japan helps). And for shopping, well, there's just lots of things to see and buy. And given the current exchange rate, HK is a winner!Originally posted by louisoh View PostLai ah... list the best countries for food, shopping, accom, etc...

was at muar in april, wow i like the small intestine satayOriginally posted by Henry T View PostGoing abroad is fine, but please also try a nearby place like Melaka. I was there on Christmas Eve.
Plenty of makan and shopping to do. And in S$ terms it is damn cheap, wey. That is how I ended up buying a pair of Oakleys which cost so much more in KL. It is genuine stuff, OK?

I think I know which one you talking about, and yes, they serve very good and cheaper food than JB. JB is closer to Singapore, so naturally things also become more expensiveOriginally posted by bEnd1ck View PostYes, open air. I'm not sure how to point out the exact location. It has shifted twice since 2000. But to very nearby location only. Turn off the main rd somewhere near petronas.

Yalah, one must be a bit more adventurous. Belum cuba, belum tahu. Lepas cuba, hari-hari mahu.

Melaka is
.
I used to go Johor very often, almost once every week during weekends, to a small town call Yong Peng. It's only about 1hr drive from the JB checkpoint. Very nice and cheap food there. Can even venture a bit up to Batu Pahat, which is about 45min from Yong Peng. A bigger town and quite a number of shopping malls there
