  • Considering between Pam 104 & 312

I would need advices and views from you guru.

I m considering to buy my first Panerai and I shortlist down to Pam 104 & 312.

One main thing that I noticed is that 104 look clearer than 312, ie the dial look darker and the glass look clearer. I do noticed that the 312 glass is more domed compare to 104 which is quite flat.

Though both are 44mm, 312 has a bigger dial which is nice.

What will be the difference between 104 and 312 in term of movement? 312 has own Pam movement but does that translate to better movement or higher resale value?

    Thanks, guys.

I'm no guru, but thought I'd throw in my 2 cents.

If the type of movement matters, I'd suggest you go with the 312 for its in-house movement. The 104 uses an OP III calibre, which is essentially an enhanced Valjoux 7750 movement (fairly common workhorse movement). IMO, both models are quite readily available and probably wouldn't retain much value.

The movement of 312 is made by Panerai. Therefore, the retail price is also higher than 104. It make sense that a 312 has a stronger value in second hand market than 104

        Thanks for the info, guys.

I did search but perhaps I key in wrong words for the searching and it say too much results or no results.

Appreciate u giving me the link.

Coming back to one of my original question. Why do 104 crystal looks clearer than 312? Is it because of the slightl domed surface?

        Thanks

Their case shape are very different.

312 sits thicker. The dial is deeper from the glass which I don't like.
          312 no instant date change.
          312 lume is slightly creamy.
104 deployment clasp. Prefer buckle for Pam.

Overall if need date n auto I will recommend 312 over 104.

In the end it's still which look u prefer.
For resale I think 312 sells better.

One diff is the dial. 104 is painted and 312 is sandwich.

I wanted my 1st pam to be sandwich dial and auto movement. But quite sad that I met a dishonest Cortna RC sales person whom told me that PAM only has painted dial for auto, all sandwich dial is manual. As a result I bought the 104 without kowing that 312 is already available.

However, after I knew abt it, I sold my 104 at a big loss after wearing it a few times and finally bought my 312. Thus, my advise to you is to look at what is most impt to you and what you really like as eventually you are the one that wear the watch. Thou, I have lose quite a fair bit to sell my 104 and get 312, but I am quite happy with it and it is one of the watch that I wear most often.

Thanks, guy. Useful feedback from the horse mouth.

I have checked around and seems that AD do not have stock. I checked the garage sales and grey import at around $8700. But I am not too comfortable with grey import as I m new into this. Headache...

                i was like you. eventually i got a PAM312 instead of PAM104.

                Pros:
                1. 312 has clear display caseback
                2. 312 has the in-house movement
                3. 312 has sandwich dial
                4. 312 has no cyclops.

                Cons
                1. More expensive than 104 by at least 1k plus.
                2. The case is fatter than 104

                But i still like my 312 to-date

I love my 320 (which is the GMT version of 312).

                  Pros
                  1. no cyclops
                  2. very clear crystal (looks beautiful)
                  3. sandwich dial (the lume is so gorgeous)
                  4. in-house mvt (although it may not be any more accurate than the ETA mvt)

                  Cons
                  1. wears heavy
                  2. need to be more careful (not to knock on any hard surfaces)
                  3. no direct hour adjustment (need to turn the hour hand to adjust date)
                  4. not as accurate as my wife's rolex or even my Laco ETA 2824-2 pilot watch

Buying from the reputable grey dealers here should be alright. Remember to buy the seller.

I bought Pam104M after much deliberation and didn't like the sandwich dial at that point in time.
Really depends what you want. If you buy it more expensive, then you probably can sell it at higher value. It's all relative.

I bought it from a local grey dealer and the set is a local AD set.

PM me if you want to get more info about the grey dealer. Very reputable and nice guy.
