  • Aquanaut and Nautilus

It's a long time debate between these two.

Tradition, history aside which one will you go for?

    Aquanaut 5167
    - looks more sporty
    - good for dress watch
    - rubber strap. Anti-patek?

    Nautilus 5711
    - more dressy
    - looks much smaller
    - classic design

    5167 looks bigger than pictures
5711 looks smaller than pictures IMO
Audemars Piguet Ball Bell&Ross Cartier IWC Longines Omega Panerai Rolex Sinn Tissot

    Alba Casio Citizen Roox Seiko

Wanted to add PP but bo lui

Hehe, my choice is clear (as seen in my sig)...
    The PP Aquanaut:
    Advantages:
    1. Aestheically more appealing (arabic numerals vs baton numerals)
    2. Cheaper price point (same movement as Nautilus but about 10k cheaper)
    3. Youthful appeal (less stoic compared to the regal Nautilus)
    4. Versatile (doubles up better as a sports and dress watch, bracelet and strap options)

One might argue that the Nautilus is more iconic but with the right marketing and time, the Aquanaut should gain momentum...
...now, if only it was 2mm bigger...
    Sweet 16:
    PP Aquanaut
    VC Overseas
    AP ROO Black Themes
    A.Lange & Sohne 1815
    Breguet Type XXI
    Blancpain 50 Fathoms
    JLC Navy Seals
    GO Senator 60s
    GP Laureato
    Zenith Pilot Extra Special
    Rolex DSSD
    IWC Big Pilot
    Pam 112
    Omega Ploprof
    Breitling Super Avenger
    Glycine F104

I will go for other brand.

        Both watches look awkward

Mille, i have to second that. Somehow after observing PP designs for a few years.. i still have yet to 'fall in love' with them. But there was a time too when i felt Rolexes didn't look good. haha so i guess its a matter of a yet-to-come acquired taste!

                I'm with the aquanuat.

Had the 5167, 5711 and 5712. Both the nautilus has left me. Never cross my mind to let go the 5167......yet.

Had the chance to try on a few variants of the aquanaut and nautilus at a boutique recently. Then tried the calatrava 5196 and 5127 and that's where I made up my mind. If there's one pp I'm getting it's the calatrava as I feel that it is the most iconic piece from PP. Nautilus is genta-designed (aquanut is not officially mentioned as genta-designed but rumoured to be), so the styling naturally shares some commonalities with royal oak. I don't mean to digress from the main topic...what I'm saying is that if i were to just choose one watch from each brand I would get the royal oak 15202 or 15400 from AP and calatrava 5196 or 5127 from PP.

Without a doubt. If you have to own one and only Patek - the Aquanaut Chronograph in SS is the iconic PP sports watch to own.

If i'm to get a PP... I guess it will be the nautilus in blue dial... classic... but if taken into consideration the movement, material and cost... the aquanaut will the tough fight...
