For me my best response will be: totally! you want one?

it's best to keep the true value of things private. Unless I'm wearing my explorer 1, then I say: this was my dad's watch. That usually shuts them up.

In my late 20s when I bought my first SS Rolex (an Explorer II), I remember some acquaintance asking this question. But in my 30s & 40s I not recall anyone asking.

Back then, my favourite reply was, "Isn't it obvious? Why need to ask?".

To be fair, there are so many fakes out there. A senior guy in my company once surprised me by declaring that his Panerai was fake. Wasn't expecting that as he can surely afford the real thing.

I'd say it's a fake one if that guy is a random or not-too-close friend..
But if that guy is a good friend, I will tell him it's a genuine.
But I'm pretty sure if we say it's a genuine one, most will say "wahhh, steady huh?" hahahha. then we will act shy shy a bit..

Just bet on loser pays the verification fee and if you lose he gets to choose any watch from nearest AD. That will sure shut them up.

Agree.. There are some people who are so comfortable being ignorant and stupid that nothing said or done can save them!

If they ask, I will just tell them my "Lolek" is fake.

It only matters to me, that my watches are real. I buy them for my own enjoyment... could care less what other people think. But my friends who know me, know I will never buy anything fake anyway
