One of the main reasons why younger generation white collar coolies prefer the sports series is because they think the datjust/daydate models looks uncle mah. I've heard this direct from quite a few sports series owners.
Eh I agree with that too la... but I like the sports series because of the design also la
I still love the DJ and DD...but not for me to wear now

I think Rolex in Asian context represent the epitome of watches. It is more than a watch in that sense as it is perceived as a "Value" symbol among many of the owners or non-owners. There are many owners who see the purchase of a Rolex watch as that of buying expensive commodity like gold for example. Like gold, its value is assured, so to speak, as one can easily offload it in a wide market for some quick cash. It is because of such prevailing perception of Rolex watches that has created such a market for it. So essentially when one buy a Rolex, the value attached due to market demand is always there. That I think is why Rolex as a brand appeal to so many different segments of the general population and hence the likes of Ah bengs or uncles (though they are who they are and don't represent Rolex main customers) would probably opt for it as a choice of watch.
I had once read somewhere that a rolex watch is the standard issue for spies as due to the unpredictabilty nature of their work, they can easily sell it anywhere to access to the much needed funds during dire circumstances (this of course is from some article I read from some watch forums and should be taken with a pinch of salt ) My point is that the recognition of the Rolex brand is perhaps the reason why there are so many people who loved them and so many people who are quick to crticise them. I gussed not many people would bash a more prestigous brand like A. Lange & Sonhe, certainly not because of its exquisite finishing, but more simply because most would probably have not heard of it b4 in the 1st place.
Juz my 2 cents.
cheers

Hahaha...I guess everyone is going to scream ROLEX because this is a rolex forum and we are the supporter...well
Btw, before rolex becomes the so-called "towkay" watch do you know which watch is aka "towkay" watch?
In real life, I think everyone have their own perception in cartain thing and we can't change it. This could be part of the upgrowing, background, culture and etc...
Who care it's ah beng, uncle, towkay and etc... Most important is that you must love the watch and wear with pride.
So...anyone know which is the towkay watch before the rolex? That's right it's Omega. If you check with those older generation (ah pek) they probably knows. In those day, those timber factory towkay normally wear only Omega. During that time, rolex is NOT that popular.
U r right. Though i'v nt known much of history, i'v heard frm various sources. Tat omega was (once upon a time) TE BRAND. Nt rolex. I dunno te time line but i was infd by one snr staff in Sincere Watch last yr. Accordingly, te reason why Sincere do nt carry rolex n instead omega, was mainly te boss' choice in te early yrs when both brands were at war. At tat time, omega dominated te watch industry n when rolex was coming up strong in the competition, both brands made a pact tat distributorship shld b limited to only either one of them, ie. Sincere can only choose to carry only one of them. Thinking omega was a safer bet (at tat time), te boss chose omega over rolex, n te agreemt remains till today.
True or nt, tat was wat i was told. Thanks for sharing.
