this is called wear and tear. just because you dont drive your car often, does that mean you dont change your tires? afterall, you are driving below average.
like car tires, the rubber break down, and it will come a time where your tires need to be changed.
likewise, a mechanical watch has many thousand independent parts operating to keep the watch ticking, and there is bound to be a weak link somewhere.

There is a gasket in the case tube. As long as the winding stem is in place, there is not the risk of dust. Nonetheless, good idea to keep in a plastic bag.
The watchmaker will probably remove the caseback, remove the stem, re-attach the crown, then reinstall. Be sure that if the watchmaker does remove the caseback, be sure to have the watch pressure tested....

it happened to my oysterdate 6466 before while winding the whole thing just came out, was very worried at that time. Look for my friend the next day and he took less then 10 mins to fix it, repair cost FOC.
