  • What is a daily beater

I am new here and have been browsing this site almost everyday for the last few months (yes, am poisoned)! Great Forum!

I would like to purchase a daily beater and am considering either a pre-owned SS Submariner or SS GMT2, which series do you think that I should consider? A collectable vintage or a newer series?

    Many thanks in advance.

for daily beater that you whack everyday, i suggest a newer series.

wear for years till it become vintage.

btw, collectible is as per the noun, something you collect not beat
I dont need another watch, I dont need another watch, I dont need another watch, I dont need another watch.........

I would get a nice vintage Sub for daily beater........no need to restore it... just keep adding age to it when you wear it........ very cool daily beater.......

my suggestion is what i learn from this forum.Try on both and see which 1 more comfortable and will sing song to u when u wear on the wrist.

Buy something you would not feel pain when you scratch it or knock it, since you are going to wear it daily.

thanks for the quick responses and suggestions.

due to the manual or hands-on work requirement at my work, a cheaper series (probably newer series) for daily wear or beater certainly sound logical.

was also thinking… since I want one, maybe get one which will attract a few looks from fellow rolex enthusiasts with maybe a 1670 or 5513.

if only I could afford a few of them…

If you're looking to get people to notice, then probably the 1675 pepsi on a steel oyster bracelet is a good place to look.

Just met a guy wearing a gmt ss from 30years ago. Only changed crystal once.

                    Wear till become vintage.

For vintage, if your daily movement do not have high risk of knocking.
It is ok. If not can get any newer watches. 10yrs, 2yrs etc.

My daily beater Rollie used to be a 1675 (about 40 years old). Now, it is a 5513 (21 years old).

                      Both served well.

will settle for a sub but can’t decide which to get…

                        have narrowed down to 5513, 14060/M, 16800, 16610.

I wonder which model is the least over priced now? Thanks.

I know many guys who bought their Rolex new still have them and wear them every day. A mate of mine dives his 80s GMT2 annually on holidays and showers with it daily and no problem with it at all. Rolex rocks as a daily beater.
