Rolex 16mm 18K Gold and Gold Plated Buckles Buyers Beware!

The simple 16mm buckle is very popular because it can be used with a 20mm/16mm strap on most Rolex models e.g Datejust, Date, Day Date and most sports models.

Was browsing through the big auction sites and noticed that almost 99% of them on sale are fakes. Most are selling them at under USD100.It is actually very simple to spot the fakes from the real if you have an authentic example.

Some sellers even have multiple buckles going for sale at the same time.
From what i know, the Rolex buckles are controlled items at RSC and they will only sell the buckle if you buy a set i.e together with the leather strap but that will set you back by $704 (Source-RSC invoice from 2013).

If in doubt, better to post the photos here and ask for opinions before you purchase.

To add on, it is also possible to buy the strap with the buckle in calf leather instead of croco skin.
Price would be about half of that or $300++ as quoted by RSC to me about a year ago.
Affirmative, Strap and buckle not sold seperately by RSC.

Also to note, there are many 18mm buckles floating around.
Rolex does not make 18mm buckles so anything 18mm is fake.

        agree bro,after 16mm would be the 20mm.

I would appreciate any photos of 16mm buckles (front and back please)to assist me in my research.
It is actually possible to estimate the period there were made based on the placement of the hallmarks and the shape/features of the crown.

For example the 80s Rolex crown was more rounded like a "U" at the base and the 90s is more "V" shape.
The same can be noted on your 1980s versus your 1990s Rolex presidents.
