so i tore both my ACL, but my left leg healed on its own. probably a minor tear. two years later, i tore my right. had surgery. it was a bad bad healing process for me. the pain was terrible for the first two weeks. did physio for 6 months, could squat fully only after like 11 months.

2 years on, somewhat back to normal

Default Try to avoid surgery unless you are really in pain and can't walk properly

Try to avoid the surgery unless you are really in pain and can't walk properly.

The surgery doesn't guarantee a 100% recovery but puts you out of action for like 4-6 months.

That's why I would say try to avoid it...

I tore my ACL too and went for ops because it was free anyway. But the road to recovery will take months and your have to constantly go for physio therapy to strengthen that injured knee/leg. It took me a year later to get back on the field. Still hurts sometimes though.

A complete tear or rupture of the ACL is very common with soccer players. The instability that results leaves the knee susceptible to further injury and wear and tear damage. The ligament will never regenerate with a complete tear, so it is important to find out if the you have a complete or a partial tear a . A partial tear will usually be painful and leaves your knee weak and susceptible to further injury even after 6 months to a year. A brace, preferably custom made, can help.
You should see a god sports specialist and probably elect for surgery particularly if you wish to partake in soccer and other sports. When it comes to rehab post surgery go to the FIFA web site and look for the FIFA 11+ rehab and preventative exercise program. It is excellent.

Sorry for the error in reference to a god sports specialist. Meant to say good. Don't want you thinking health professionals are deities.

Friend of mine had ACL done, and recovered after a couple of years and went back to playing soccer. Wrong choice. The knees will not be able to take it. Then he started cycling and been doing well since then. Took him about 2 years of cycling exercise and now in his late 40's and doing triathlon.

I got a torn muscle on my left shoulder while doing exercise and the doctor told me its a 1 and a half year rest! so do take care when doing exercise and remember to do warm up and down properly.

Didn't know there are so many fellow ACL victim here...

Torn mine few years back, refused to go for ops, still playing football but my movement are restricted in some ways and the knee hurts after match...

I know if I go for ops, will be out for minimum a year, and that is worse than the pain!

usually operation is recommended if you are a sportsman as it cant heal itself.
