  • Best Japanese entry level movement

Excluding grand seiko(anyway it not consider entry level) , based on experience , which movement is the best comparing citizen ,orient and seiko.

    Seiko 6r15

Miyota 9015? Hacking Seconds, Handwind and 28,800 bph. Many smaller outfits seem to be switching from ETA 2824 to this.

Only have Seiko Sumo (6r15) and Orient Mako II before.

I can only speak from my limited experience. I have two Seikos, a Seiko 5 (which I believe is 6R15) and a later version of 4R36A. For me the latter is more accurate and (probably) has greater power reserve. I stand corrected on both observations.

I have no Orient or Citizen for the sake of comparison.

Seiko 5 should be a good contender .

Ok, I have had a quick check on my Seiko 5 a.k.a Sea Urchin. It has a 7S36 movement. But I still think the 4R36A is better, but maybe the former is not yet 'broken in'. Both watches were bought within two months of each other.

Actually I feel the 6R15 is not seiko's entry level movement, can be considered their low-mid range movement, watches with this movement are mostly in the S$600 to S$800 range already.

Would think their 7S2x, 7S3x and 4R3x movements are their entry level movements as they are found in seiko 5s and many of their popular divers with prices as low as S$100.

Personally think the 4R3x movements great value, for less than $200 you get a auto with manual winding and hacking....
