    there's a mixed martial arts gym called Evolve in Pomo Mall that looks good but it's a bit $$$... I think they mainly focus on Jujitsu and Muay Thai

    based on my observations, Muay Thai is one of the more realistic, practical martial arts as compared to e.g taekwondo (focus too much on kicks), Judo (mostly pulls +throws) or Karate (too stiff).

    in my teens I was crazy about martial arts, took up TKD and became instructor but somehow found it to be incomplete. you can't use your kicks in close combat when someone grabs you or if the floor is slippery,in toilets, on street after rain, you cannot kick otherwise if you fall kaput!

    likewise for judo, if you can't get close to your opponent, he could floor you with his punches and kicks before you grab him.

    now... muay thai....I learnt a bit of it, it covers all situations whether you spare from distance or if close up finish your opponent with elbows and knee strikes...that is true street fighting and realistic....
