  • Advice on 40 or 42 inch LCD TV

Yo bros and sis. My CRT finally died yesterday. Am looking around for a replacement. I found the following brand I am keen on. LG, SONY AND SAMSUNG. Using the TV for just viewing programs and occassional DVD and sports.

Please offer me yr advice and recommendations on models and brand feedback. And if u know of any place whom sells LCD TV cheap and good. Thanks.

    Desired horologes ...

    - IWC Portuguese Automatic
    - GMT II
    - GMT IIc TT
    - Reverso Squadra Hometime (7008620)/ Reverso Squadra
    - Master Eight Days (1608420)
    - U1
    - IWC Aquatimer

An exquisite timepiece, brings timeless memories and precious moments...

I got my pioneer plasma 42" TV about 6 years ago... I prefer plasma over LCD because I find plasma tv's colour is more "solid" and "sharper" than LCD during that time. It is working fine, no problem till now... my XMM watch it everyday....

Now, technology for LCD has improved.

If I am getting a new TV now, I will get the Samsung LED TV UA40B7000WM. It is slim and it is damn sharp!!! There are a few diff models, pay more for the better one, you can see the difference.

for me, i will be looking for a plasma made by pioneer . it is voted as the best panel in the world. sadly, if i not mistaken, the last of the last pioneers are being sold at a premium, just like the daytona

my dream plasma right now would be the pioneer Kuro PDP-LX609A 60" of pure bliss

      as for lcd:-
samsung and sony = same panel, different engine
lg/phillips = same panel, same engine (not 100% sure)
sharp = independent inhouse production (my fav)

tho 42" will be small. i would be eyeing something in the 52" - 60" range

Bro, to me, it depends on whether u putting ur LCD inside ur room or in the living room. Mine i bought a 42 inch Phillips and wall mounted on my room, now i realise it is toooooooo big liao, sometimes I get GIDDY when i watch it for too long.

I have the contact for Phillips ( the person who came to mount for me ) he promise to offer a better price because he as a staff can get a better deal. But of cos no freebies la. Let me know if Phillips is alright with u.

i opt for 42 inch Sony LCD (40 is too small...just like watches..the bigger the better...hahaaha)..if you're putting at the living room, you must consider the reflection from the sun on the plasma TV...for LCD, you won't see any reflection.

i think for the sun reflection it depends on the coating. majority of panels if i not wrong is gloss

I've short listed about afew models.... they are
                    Samsung:
                    - LA-40B550 series 5 which is a 100Hhz (better for seeing action movies or sports)
                    - LA-40B650 series 6 (but its the most ex samsung I am considering)
All above free 26" LCD TV

                    SONY
                    - KLV-40S550
                    - KLV-40W400A

LG and SHARP have not go research.... I don't think I would wana spend about >2.5k for a TV since now, the prices dropped greatly.

I did see the SAMSUNG LED TVs... damn nice but I won't pay lah.. hahahah

My old CRT last me 5yrs which I think is more than reasonable liao...

Ya I do know about the panel but when I compared the Samsung display, it did look alittle inferior to LGs... (no offence hor to any samsung tv owners)

LED tv not worth it now as it is still consider new in the market, prices will sure come down ( like LCD tv now ).

Philips LCD tv not bad, especially those with back-lighting on the side panels.
