SG spends 100mil on Panda enclosure but Aussie uses 8mil ??

GIANT Chinese pandas Wang Wang and Funi have touched down at Adelaide Airport and are clearing customs ahead of a waiting police escort to deliver them safely to their new home.

The pandas are being unloaded from their crates for processing by quarantine and customs officials.

They will then be transported in a climate-controlled semi-trailer to a new $8 million enclosure.

Travelling with them are Chinese keepers and vets as well as Adelaide Zoo keepers who have been getting to know the bears over the past few weeks.

Adelaide Zoo spokeswoman Emily Rice said the pandas were expected to arrive around lunchtime.

"It depends on how quickly they are processed," she told AAP.

"They should be here in the next hour or two."

Wang Wang and Funi will spend the next month in quarantine, ensconced inside the enclosure which includes some innovative features including refrigerated rocks to ensure they can handle the Australian summer heat.

Their first appearance comes on December 13, when Governor-General Quentin Bryce will officially open their new home.

whats so good about pandas in the first place? honestly, i think they are overpriced for what they are. not to mention, this particular animal isnt very clever; like, they are in the fast lane to extinction.

                  Pandas hopefully not White Elephants?

                  Etymology :
From the King of Siam's (Thailand) reputed practice of awarding a white elephant (albino) to a courtier (govt official) who had fallen out of favor. A white elephant was not only considered sacred but also could not be put to work. Because the animals were considered sacred and laws protected them from labor, receiving a gift of a white elephant from a monarch was simultaneously both a blessing and a curse: a blessing because the animal was sacred and a sign of the monarch's favour, and a curse because the animal had to be retained and could not be put to much practical use, at least to offset the cost of maintaining it. Thus the mere upkeep (high maintenance like a Bethune) of the animal would often financially ruin its owner (maybe by or so within a decade?).

“Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power.”
Abraham Lincoln (American 16th US President from1861-65, who brought about the emancipation of slavery from 1809-1865).

“Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Watch your words, for they become actions.
Watch your actions, for they become habits.
Watch your habits, for they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.”
