National swimming coach blames traffic jam for registration screw up

using your logic, you can also say the same for china (pollution, human right abuse [sorry if im being political], etc). time is there for a reason, the swiss once told me, "in our culture we give 5 mins, after that, we reserve the right to walk away". the japs are also another bunch who are anal about timing, and as such, dealing with their businessmen can sometimes be intimidating . once, i was told to wait at the lobby at 0800hr, at 0800hr, i reached the lobby, and the japs was there waiting for me. felt damn lousy.

have some support for your countrymen lah..dont complain n criticise about everything,its typical singaporean syndrome..complain n complain,everything also complain!
the indian organisers should have a back up system knowing the traffic there is chaotic,at least allow the manager to call or fax over the names should something crop up.

dont get me wrong buddy, im not taking sides here. i believe in giving all a fair shot; but we cannot excuse if the mistake is on your side.

and by the way, im not singaporean. my passport is black color not red .

The man in the centre of the storm is a very seasoned and experienced sportsman of his time, have participated in numerous regional competitions for many years. More or less, he should know better to manage his time and let this tragedy to happen. I shake my head.

When you say rich......which part of China? But ya, agree. just think of the money they have to spend on the white el...i mean olynpics stadium. coupled with the fact that should they appreciate their currency, the number of rich people that may become poor

no human rights abuse suddenly led me to think of some vehicles that can shoot explosives thru their trunks.............no idea why tho

anyway, don think we are complaining here. We are just voicing our discontentment on a decision made by the coach on leaving at 2.45pm when the deadline is 3pm. Look at it this way, you are on a watch forum where some peeps will criticise a brand if the watch losses or gains a couple of seconds. We are now talking about missng the deadline by 1hr!!

Finally, why should we view that our countryman should be given 'special rights' if they are late? you don see other teams doing that? In view that even you know the chaotic traffic there, i think the coach having competed there for a few days should be able to know first hand and left earlier?

I was also shocked to learn the news last few days. He should be experienced in handling such events. All of us know if contestants are late for finals, disqualification is the consequence. Anyway, I saw his reply on papers, I felt he was quite arrogant in his answers. He should be more tactful.

the fault lies with the indian organisers,they are not being flexlble..
we should b allowed to participate..its no fault of ours cos its the delhi's traffic jam that caused it..period. :-)

Be it at Delhi or any part of the world, late is late, no excuses. Rules are set to be follow, late because of traffic jam is not an excuse and if they really take it seriously, they should have expect the unexpected and leave early, with that lousy excuses given i think the organiser did the right thing. If they this time round be "flexible" to our swimming team and allow them to participate in the final what if next time round there is another country for other event is late? Again be flexible? Then i think if the games planned to end in a month will take at least two more months to end.

traffic jam is a very very good excuse,no fault of ours imo..the organisers did a lousy job cos they werent flexible,.if next time round,another country is late,they should too b allowed to participate..doesnt matter if the games take longer to complete,lol. this is just my personal opinion.

So based on mingwen's analogy, you reckon SQ is gonna be impressed, if I arrived late to the airport (and subsequently missed my flight). Afterall, im a visitor to your country, you should be flexible; and i dont know the traffic conditions. so SQ should wait for me as well. Anyone agree?
