  • Tax Exemption for Wrist Watch in Malaysia ?

Several well-informed persons have mentioned this to me before and to be sure, managed to google some credible evidences.

Here is one from the Malaysian Custom. Pocket watches, wrist watches and table / wall clocks are all classified under "Non-dutiable Goods".

Here is another from Malaysia Industrial Development Authority. Wrist-watch is classified as sales-tax exempted.

So has anyone actually brought watches from US/Europe and shipped into malaysia tax-free ?

IIRC, they are tax free even when posted/couriered from overseas into malaysia. i met a malaysian seller once (he drove from KL to meet me in singapore) and i asked why didn't he want it shipped to him...

he said although tax free, it's faster if he drove... : ) ALSO... he was in singapore for a meeting!

he bought a patek from me.

according to him, as long as pos malaysia doesn't get involved (ie, using fedex instead) the watch is safe. also, he will receive it WITHOUT having to pay any taxes.

I did have my watch couriered to KL, fully insured and declared without incurring any sales tax. My advise is plan the schedule right so that the watch does not spend a weekend with the courier in malaysia.
