  • Keeping watch over United

This Straits Times article today is at page B14 (Sports). It features Hublot's new watch for Manchester United FC. Called the "King Power Red Devil", it is on display in the boutique at the MBS. There's a pic in the article.

    Article here :

If you want a piece of Old Trafford's hallowed turf on your wrist, get ready to pay $38,500. That is the price of the new Manchester United-themed watch from Swiss watch-maker Hublot, which has taken freeze-dried blades of grass from the club's famous ground and crafted them onto the dial.

Only 500 pieces of this timepiece - called the King Power Red Devil - are available worldwide. Another 250, made out of 18-carat gold, are on sale for $61,000. Each watch is accompanied by a certificate signed personally by United manager Alex Ferguson.

Hublot has been United's official timekeeper since 2008, and has developed two previous watches - the Red Devil Bang I and II - in conjunction with the English champions. The 500 and 100 sets of the Bang I and II watches respectively were sold out worldwide, including in Singapore.

The latest watch was launched yesterday at Hublot's Marina Bay Sands store by former United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar. And despite its price tag, it is expected to be just as popular.

Said van der Sar: "It's a really beautiful watch, and it's something special for the fans who want to experience the magic of United."
