Nice Car or watches?

Nv like the "idea" of giving "more" money to the govt than what's necessary....ref to the High COE.

I see it as giving money to govt who in turn use it to help those less well off through the various social welfare schemes....it's not as if it all goes directly into their personal bank account....

IMO COE is in the wrong direction as it taxes ownership, not usage.

It results in more usage as since you already paid so much, better use the car.

Congestions are caused by usage, not ownership. People feels less pain when it's a sunk cost and deducted fixed amount every month.

They should take away the COE and bring up ERP to cover the revenue partially. Eg. $50 to enter CBD at peak.
Factor in cost as at least $1k to drive into town during peak a month everyday.
Then people will consider parking their car and take public as they have better incentive not to drive everyday.

It will also benefits people who need cars for old folks and medically unfit. As cars will be cheaper for them to own and usually they don't need car at peak hours.

I rather keep keep the money than pay car duty or taxes to make our government rich....haha...
After so many oversea and back, I think our public transport system is really world class despite of the recent breakdown. There isn't much place we can't get to using public transport.

If can have both is the best. But if need to choose, car will depreciate and watch sometime may have the luck to appreciate in value. You decide.
