Import tax on watches bought on Ebay

I understand that there will be a 7% import tax by Sg customs on goods.

Would the import tax be applicable for purchase of a rolex (>$1k) over Ebay?

It does not matter through what source or platform you buy the goods from. So long as the purchased goods need to be shipped from other country into SG and is valued > $400, GST shall apply.

Ultimately the GST will be based on the value declared. That means if you are buying a preowned watch from a overseas private seller it gets a bit tricky, if you know what I mean...

Of course. If you insure something worth $500 and $5000, the premier is different and the coverage is different.

In addition, a free advice....I won't buy a watch on ebay.

1. Many fakes (at one time I think more than 1/2 are fakes). Applicable to high end ones.
2. Many cases of picture is real but nothing (or a fake one arrives)...then long process to report and make claim (if possible at all)
3. Many cases of real watch arrived but condition not as depicted in the picture.

Unless you have very good knowledge of wo you are buying from....thread carefully.

Smaller value items like Casio and Seikos are safer.

Regarding insurance...

You might want to take note that the courier companies have a limited liability even if you opt to include insurance in the freight, i.e. you will only get very little amount of compensation should the goods go missing.

Alot of factors involved but they have the right to do so, if you piss them off the wrong way, they can slap u a heavy tax levy based on new price, anything is possible.
