By the way, does anyone know of a fast way to scan 3R and 4R photos? Is it faster to scan one-by-one or few at a time and then crop to separate them? Any PC app that support such mass scanning of photos? TIA.

Bedok, near the famous blk 85 market. The 2 bak cho mee stalls were already there 20 odd years ago, when I was still a kiddo. Each bowl used to be filled with lots of fatty bak cho, not like how it is now, with just a few miserable pieces of minced meat floating in the soup. Standard has dropped so much.

Spent most of my childhood in Bukit timah, Hougang, Bukit Panjang and Beach Road area. I loved to venture around Bukit Timah on my BMX, cycling into lanes that would bring me to another "unexplored" lanes/streets. I would carry some money to buy drinks / snacks from mama shops or econ minimart. And these were the little joy that I will not forget.

Wonder if anyone here owned this watch "protector" before (back in 80/90s) ?
Remember i had several of these! black, green, neon, yellow, luminous color, etc. And i felt cool when i put them on my digital casio. With it on, I would bang my casio against the wall to prove that the protector works. Man, it was cool.. haha

A dumb bell shape rubber like the attached pic (gotten from internet, not my watch)

Looks like we are from the same era.

I had to go to neighbour's house to watch b & w tv too. We were renting rooms and owned only the real basic necessities. No tv, fridge, or anything like that.

I was pretty good in playing the "gor li" game in which one used his white marble ball to hit and try to break the others'. The smaller one was the more expensive one cos it's harder to break. I remember the small one cost 30 or 35 cents and the big one like the size of a fishball cost 10 cents.

Life was tough for the adults then but the kids were definitely happier than those of today imo.

This is one of the best non-watch threads i have read here on SGROC.

I had quite a privileged upbringing. Stayed in balmoral road when born, moved to yio chukang at 2yrs old, then now am at andrew rd near mediacorp since 14yrs old. I am coming 34yrs, born tail end of the 1970s. So i guess my upbringing will seem very sterile compared to a lot of members here, esp some seniors who graduated from schools of hard knocks. Perhaps living at YCK during primary school was a bit more "exciting". Everyday sure run out to play with the kampong kids and other neighbour's kids. We used to hide under the canals, burn dried twigs and leaves, anything that could catch fire, create huge flames and scare the hell out of the adults with the fog and haze. Yup. The little pyomaniacs.

In my moments of quiet, i imagine what it would have been like living in the 60s-70s. When i chance upon old magazines/photographs and old parts of singapore or paraphernalia and items of the yesteryears, i feel as though i have missed out on some good things. All this despite having such a smooth life so far. I often wish i was still a boy though, free of any real worry of the current apartheid. It is heartening to see so many members here coming out so strong despite humble beginnings.

Well, a crown for every achievement then. Cheers to all!

I grew up in Balestier Road and though I didn't think much of it then, it was what shaped my outlook on life and gave me lots of guts to do things I wouldn't have done if I had grown up in a more sedate HDB estate. My story here: iantan.org/scenes-from-balestier/
