If I am not wrong, gold bars u buy from bank and gold shop are at different price (20+ % difference) - I mean the gold price alone, no workmanship invloved.
Gold shop charges a premium to the international gold price but bank sells at actual price.

In terms of a basic gold bar or coin like the Pamp Suisse bar and Canadian Gold Maple, you can get them at Jewelry shops (most ex), UOB bank (less ex) , specialty bullion shops (less less ex) and forum (least ex). For peace of mind, get from speciality shops like Goldsilvercentral, Silverbullion, BullionStar which all the have online shops. The price difference between these shops and jewelry shops can be more than 20%! Or you can visit goldclubasia.com where most gold bugs gather and find a good deal in the classifieds.

Honestly, just buy gold bars in grams, start small then move up. As some of the bros here have mentioned, get them from pawnshops or places like maxiCash whereby stuff like workmanship is not an issue, if I'm not wrong, they don't charge GST as well. If you're getting them in kilograms then its slightly diff.
