Cheap and very good will be Joe's Kitchen at alexandra village, next to the famous san lor hor fun coffee shop!

For Thai food i usually go to Nakhon at 212 Hougang Street 21. Nowadays the queuing has become ridiculously long though (seen it extend 20+meters) so I have stopped eating there and just call in advance to do a take away since I stay quite close by. Food is good and reasonably priced. There is another branch in Bedok which has long queues too. I just saw a new branch at Marine Parade Central (block 82 i think) last week during lunch which did not have any queue.

Theres also a pretty decent Thai stall at the City Plaza food court.
