You're welcome.Melbourne as a costwise in comparison to Singapore its about the same for most things but in A$ so its slightly more expensive due to exchange rates. Sydney is slightly a bit more ; Perth is significantly more around 2.5 x in A$ and is one of the most expensive to live and travel in the world.

You could consider flying into Sydney spend 3-4 days there then fly onto Hobart in Tasmania spend a week there for a road trip around the island and then fly to Melbourne for 3-4 days.

If you want a good value driving holiday for Australia - Tasmania is the place to go. It has the best scenery and extremely low prices for the country. A driving holiday Tasmania is highly recommended as the traffic flow there is not heavy and is well very structured and easily navigated. Here's the website for Melbourne:

    For Sydney http://www.sydney.com/

Most people tend to use Jet star when flying between the Australian cities: http://www.jetstar.com/au/en/home

Early September is still winter here in Australia and in the Eastern states it will be the peak of winter with lots of rain and dark days. Its only around very late Sep/ early October does the spring weather start- fine days with lots of sunshine. If you can put off your trip to mid October then it will be the best time for travelling.More sunshine and fine weather/ predictable weather, except in Melbourne Victoria which is predominantly wet and has really unpredictable weather.

Wouldn't recommend driving and getting stressed out on a holiday. Melbourne is one city whereby its easier to use public transport/ taxis. I would recommend using commercial companies to check out surrounding areas rather than hire a car and drive there.

                    Check out this discussion: http://www.sg-roc.com/threads/109200...urne-Australia
I can recommend this company as well:

Mid spring going into summer would be a much better time to go. Ideally the months of mid October into early December. Crown casino complex is pretty good overall but not as good as Burswood in Perth which is the newest and most luxurious in Australia.

Same opinion here dun drive in melbourne city, if you want you may try to do so for the Great Ocean Roads outside the city but do avoid night driving and also get full insurance coverage... This seaside drive have nice view, relaxing small towns and beaches to stop over to relax and try the local specials but roads may be twisty so exciting but needs to be careful.
Avoid Chinatown if possible as I find it quite rowdy especially during any possible chinese festive period... If you like coffee there are tons of good coffee joints in melbourne city the more local they are the better it is ... taste much much better than starbucks or coffee bean anytime....

                              Magrette Bronze (daily beater)
                              Hamilton Jazz

the first thing when u arrive in Aust, do get a local sim card. my recommendation is to get from Optus. Optus has an unlimited internet access, local calls & local sms for just AUD2/day. nowadays, we do use whatapps, line, tango etc quite often, so this plan is really value for money.

let say u will be there for 10 days. u only need to pay AUD22 (AUD2x10days + AUD2 for sim card).
