Always drive in Melb... else moving ard is very inconvenient...generally easy driving but just gotta be careful of the hook turn in the city...

But do take note of the 1P, 2P (p=hour) signs cos their parking attendants r all on commission there and dun give chce... very fast to summon...

Parking in Melbourne is expensive, could remember how long we parked (est. 5-6hrs) was charge AUD50++
If driving please look for designated parking lots, don't not do legally parking even you are in the city hub. Was fine AUD100 for legally parking, because of 2 bowls of noodle.

It is a nice experience to drive outside Melbourne especially towards the Great Ocean Road. I just came back from Melbourne with a 3 days self drive experience to Great Ocean Road the to Daylesford ending with visit to wineries in Yarra Valley.

The roads can be quite tricky, make sure you are equip with a proper GPS with updated map.

Overall is a fantastic feel while driving along the Great Ocean Road.

Few places to visit along Great Ocean Road:-

    - SplitPoint Lighthouse @ Aireys Inlet
    - Stopover in one of the costal town, Lornes for their tasty seafood
    - Otway Lighthouse (Must see), catch a gilpmise of Kolas in the Otway National Park
    - the magnificent Twelve Apostles, go onto to beach from Gibson Steps for a closer encounter
    - Visit Loch Ard Gorge
    - stay at Port Campbell Town and enjoy a nice stroll on their beach

the first thing when u arrive in Aust, do get a local sim card. my recommendation is to get from Optus. Optus has an unlimited internet access, local calls & local sms for just AUD2/day. nowadays, we do use whatapps, line, tango etc quite often, so this plan is really value for money.

let say u will be there for 10 days. u only need to pay AUD22 (AUD2x10days + AUD2 for sim card).

Same opinion here dun drive in melbourne city, if you want you may try to do so for the Great Ocean Roads outside the city but do avoid night driving and also get full insurance coverage... This seaside drive have nice view, relaxing small towns and beaches to stop over to relax and try the local specials but roads may be twisty so exciting but needs to be careful.
Avoid Chinatown if possible as I find it quite rowdy especially during any possible chinese festive period... If you like coffee there are tons of good coffee joints in melbourne city the more local they are the better it is ... taste much much better than starbucks or coffee bean anytime....
