  • DIY: Special Watch Display

    Dear Forummers,

Most people who ever display their precious timepieces, do it passively. They display them in a watchbox or perhaps with a static acrylic stand.

Why not have something like this...?

At rest, the box is dark and mysterious (top photo)
Once you wave your hand close or touch the box, it'll light up showing your prized collection inside. So imagine a few of such boxes......

There's no slide switches, no rockers, no push-buttons... just a "sensor" switch.

This Special Watch Display is a 3-part project. It mainly consist of the following.

Part 1 - The Watch Stand
Part 2 - The "Sensor" Circuit
Part 3 - The Housing (Box)

Instructions for Part 1 is now ready. Parts 2 and 3 will be released two weeks apart.

Please PM me for full instructions to DIY a Watch Stand if you're interested. I won't be posting in my blog.

    DIY Watch Stand...

    cheers

If you dont mind a suggestion. Maybe drop the voltage abit more, i reckon, the light box may be a tad bright. also if can wire the LEDs on the main frame and attaching a thin piece of perspex to disperse the light. gives a softer feel. just my A$0.02

Ya hor! A bit too bright like soccer stadium...

Will tone it down from 12V to 9V... make it look more like showroom effect!

            Thx for the suggestion bro.

            cheers!

Thinking back, placement of the LED helps too. If you have noticed, AD cabinets, usually have the focus from the four corners. Wiring one-two led in the corner shouldnt be too much hassle. might even look neater.

btw - where does your DIY stop? You have electrical, handicrafts, wooden crafts, etc.

Any experience with cars? home renovations? etc? It'll be interesting to know.
