  • Advises needed on used PP 5146

    hello all sifu and masters,
i'm looking for a used PP 5146 either G or J, need some good advises from all the masters here.
    1) What's the "market value" of a used PP 5146J/G (full set assuming dated ard 08-09 period) with visible signs of daily wear such as hairlines scratches on case and bucket but no dings? just a ball park figures.
    2) what are the things to look out for for a used PP 5146 annual calandar?
    3) how to check for the quality of the movements? do i have to set the hours to 6 o'clock before i can adjust dates/month etc? If yes and the previous owner does not follow this rule, will the movement suffer damages? Major damages?
4)does the original set come with additional straps?
    5) how often does the watch require servicing and wahts the servicing cost? heard that for Annual calandar can only be serviced in PP HQ at Genava??
    6) whats the liquidity of the secondary market of this watch, ie resale value?

many many thanks and much appreciated for your effort in replying the above. Thanks.

I heard...servicing is about $800 at least for overhaul.

Liquidity won't be the best because of the high cost...but as usual, if ur price attractive anything goes

        Hello MiniMerc,

I no expert but I try to answer some of your questions. I don't own a 5146 though...
        1) From what I know the YG RRP is about 4K cheaper then the WG. Fair value would be anywhere from 30-40% off RRP depending on the usual factors, complete set, local or foreign AD, condition of watch and condition of the strap, seller unwilling to offload at lower price.... So its really hard to give a ballpark figure.

        2) Besides the watch, there are the certificates, the manual, moon phase chart, wood box and stylus for poking the settings.

        3) You are right, it is recommended not to set the watch if the watch is between 10-2 cos it can jam the mechanism. But I not sure if it causes major damage. The only way to know if the mechanism is ok is to open it up. So what is unofficially advised is to set the watch when the time reads 6 am.

        4) don't think it comes with additional straps.

        5) Annual calendar can be serviced locally. Only grand complications need to go back to Geneva.

        6) Liquidity is as our founder has stated; it takes a while to find a buyer as the price bracket moves up. Anyway if you look carefully qn 6 answers qn 1. How much are you willing to pay for it, would roughly equate to the price it goes for.

        Hope its useful.
