Price check on Submariner 14060M, Z series

Hi Seniors in the forum,

I am really new to this forum and will be getting my first sub watch. Rather excited on owning one but i am not too sure if the price i am being offered is on the steep side. Wish seniors here can give me some guide. I have browsed through the garage and sold section but i dont seem to find any model that is close to the one i am getting.

I was quoted SGD7K for a 14060M, Z series, sub with date from a reputable watch shop. Basically, the condition of the watch if around 9/10 except for some hairline scratches. It comes with box and paper and since it is has been verified by a reputable watch shop, i do not need to send it for anymore verification. Thus, will be able to save on the cost. The boss is also throwing in a year's warranty for the watch.

I know that it might be hard to justify the price of the watch but i would like to have a general direction so that i can firm up my decision.

If it is the Submariner ND (14060M), it is obviously way too much. Even the Submariner (16610) is a little expensive, as in for a 'Z' series. Recently I went with a friend to try sell a 'M' series (one series newer than 'Z') Submariner at a few local watch shops and the price range offered to him was between low to mid 5K

Hi guys,

Really appreciate for all the inputs. I think i am a little mix up with the 14060 and 16610 model. The one that i was offered has no pin holes and it comes with the cyclops lens. So, i would presume it to be a 16610 model sub with date. Given this description, is SGD7K reasonable? I am really sorry for the confusion on my part and not giving clear details of the watch.

Yes I can understand that but not "cut-throat" pricing right, especially so when in this Internet age, such information is readily available. No need, he needed the money fast for an emergency so I think he had gotten it sold his way already.

And oh btw, for TS' reference, I recalled a relative having bought an 'M' series Submariner 16610 (full local AD set) in 90% condition from Hobbylink in 2010 for about mid 6K.

It's not just that. I think there are various legitimate reasons for doing so. One obvious reason is the flexibility in payment, ie CC interest-free installment that most AD provide. The other and more common reason I came across is the convenience of purchase. This means the buyer will be buying with an assured peace of mind without needing to deal with authenticating issues. And seriously, I have been approached by some forum members and friends/relatives to ask for AD recommendations despite telling them that they could buy watches at cheaper prices thru' other sources.

To put in perspective, i would also want to get my watch from AD. But then, due to budget constraint and other reason, i am getting it from a pre-owned shop. Buying from AD really gives you an ease of mind.

Personally, I feel buying from ADs or preowned shops or even grey markets, parallel importers makes no difference. Main thing is you still get the beloved Rolex you want and money is saved, so you can spend it on more watches! Anyway you can always send the watch to the Rolex centre for authentication for a hundred plus before purchase if you are not buying from the ADs. ADs Service is just a moment of joy, wearing a watch that you know you bought cheaper lasts a lifetime.

i wont pay $7k for a used 14060, not even if it has the engraved rehaut or if it was a cosc
there are much better choices at $7k

First of all, i would like to say a big thank you to those who have been contributing to my thread and giving me such valuable advises and also those who are reading it. Really appreciate the inputs and opinions shared. I have gotten my very first sub Rolex and i am indeed very proud to own one.

Is a gmt coke 6.5k y-series w pinhole, comes w cert n watch only, considered too steep?
