  • Chipped sapphire crystal

    hi there!

i have got a 16570 (white) from an AD recently and in just 2 weeks, i noticed a chip at the 11 o'clock edge. i do not remember sustaining any hard knocks to her but...

please kindly share your experiences with your Rolex sapphire crystal and advice my options available. tia.

Sorry to hear that... while Sapphire crystal is scratch proof, it is also rather brittle along the edges..

If you really need to change it, RSC charges abt high 200+ i think (Asked about this before for a fellow forumer awhile back). You can search on this forum with sapphire crystal, you should find the relevant thread.

      Desired horologes ...

      - IWC Portuguese Automatic
      - GMT II
      - GMT IIc TT
      - Reverso Squadra Hometime (7008620)/ Reverso Squadra
      - Master Eight Days (1608420)
      - U1
      - IWC Aquatimer

An exquisite timepiece, brings timeless memories and precious moments...

really bad luck on the chipped crystal. think it's futile to complain to the AD unless you know them very well. then again, dun think they could do much abt it either. u prob should hv had checked multiple times before you left the store with the watch.

replacement would prob set u back a few hundred dollars but if you can live with the minor flaw, just wear the watch in good health, i am sure it will serve you well for many yrs to follow.

i remember one of the bro here posted that the cost of changing is $198. give RSC a call if you are serious about changing it.

the replacement cost is <$200 @rsc.

verdict: to keep the chip on the sapphire crystal edge and wait for the next, and next, and then next to appear. hey...it's only her (16570) 3rd week on my wrist.

ya, i think you just bear with it for the time being, send the explorer II in when you need to do overhaul, the package, i think is $500++ including overhaul and change of crystal.
