Ya. But if you put $455 in the bank for 30 years still less than $1000 + interest.

good point, also must remember the consistent price rises. Technically our expII should cost no more then US$1500 at todays prices. however we all know that rolex price are so different from one year to another

            good info

thanks for sharing this info. your price list reminded abt how money has "devalued" over the yrs. back then in 1975, $455 was really quite a bit of money. was just chatting with my dad and somehow the topic of national service came up. when my dad was enlisted in 1967/68, a typical recruit's allowance was abt $60 or so.

subsequently when he purchased a 3-rm flat in 1970, he paid abt 19k, then in 1985, he sold it for 35k and bought tamp 4-rm in tamp for 60k.

fast forward to today, in nov 2006, i paid 380k for my first 5-rm. look at the prices for a flat located in boon keng road.

interest will NEVER catch up with inflation just like our pay. govt can adjust the salaries until the cows come home or the sun rising from the toilet bowl but it will NEVER be enuff to match the inflation of daily products.

so rollie isn't the only company/organisation that inflates the prices of their products at such crazy rates on an annual basis? rulers of nations are already doing it, let alone companies.
            Remnants of my irresponsibility:
            "Foreign affections"
            1) Sinn U1-30 June 2007
            2) Rolex Sea-Dweller 16600 M series-23 Jan 08 (HER perpetual oyster )
            3) Omega Seamaster Chrono Diver 2225.80.00-25 Jul 08 (From Wife )
            4) IWC Top Gun Chrono-20 Sep 09

                      crap

                      A Sub was US$386 in 1973, the 16610 should be US$2000 today inflation-adjusted, or about S$3400 new. Not $7,400 !

yup, you hit the nail right on the head. i can tell you my mom bought her BNIB TT DJ for 2600ish in 85-87, now the price of comparable model is also a lot less then the list price today

Inflation calculation is not fixed, let take at the look at oil price now. Gold price, steel and also rice price all more than double from last year. Is it fair to say that a barrel of oil is worth only US$60 instead of US$110? =) We can't change the fact that it is US$110 now.
