The ETA Caliber 6497 is more of less the same as rolex movements? So assuming once I learn about the 6497 I can actually service my own watch?

Would the skills also be usable on other common movements like 2824, 2836 and 2892?

the reason why we are using caliber 6497 is due to it oversized parts and ease of working with. its robustness and giant parts mean participants can see more and understand better. its design means it is less likely for anyone to break or lose anything and have a very high chance of putting it back together with success.

this workshop is dedicated to those poor souls slogging out their sweat and tears for our rolexes in the authorized service center today. it is very much on the appreciation of the mechanical watch and its functions rather than being able to service our own rolexes as you need three good years working under a master technician "THOSE" days and I repeat THOSE DAYS before trainees are allow to touch customers' watches.

if anyone wishes to work on their own rolex, please consider attending this workshop before doing so. otherwise, the poor souls inside the service centers will have more to swear at and you will have to fork out double or triple the price for servicing if you need to send it in after your adventure inside the movement!!!

however, for interest sake, we will do a 1 to 1 comparison between a rolex 3035 or 3135 caliber and its individual parts with the 6497 and its parts and let participants decide on whether they want to proceed with their own servicing.

the venue will be at orchard area. a proper classroom with watchmaker's bench and tools plus very expensive waldmann lightings i hope. Waldmann is the white color light you see inside the rolex service center.

Speaker for workshop owns and run an independent watch service center and is a pre-owned watch dealer. Since 2002 till date, over 3000 pre-owned high-end watches have changed hands, after being serviced, polished and checked by the service center he runs, before being exported to Europe and United States. Dealing mainly in Rolex watches, he has developed a special interest in mechanical watch failure, its diagnosis and fault analysis.

Today, he runs the only ISO certified full-fledged authorized service center in Singapore. This Swiss and German backed watch service center is modern and well-equipped with up-to-dated advanced testing and diagnosis equipment, machines and instruments.

Speaker represents Bergeon, Elma, Lampert, Waldmann and Witschi in Singapore.

Speaker also has an ETA (Swatch Group) account and is an ETA Original Parts reseller. This direct link with ETA Switzerland allows access to a vast wealth of technical communication/ information on Swiss-Made ETA movements, Original ETA Parts for service and repair of Swiss-Made watches running on ETA calibers and ETA in-house training program. Tapping on this wealth of technical information, he is able to share and communicate with watch enthusiasts his understanding of the basic mechanical or quartz movements found in major brands of Swiss-Made mechanical and quartz watches.

Being the local representative for Bergeon, Elma, Lampert, Waldmann and Witschi, he is charged with the task of promoting, educating and technical communication and training for these equipment and toolings. He is also the only Asian trainer for Lampert precision micro-welding devices.

These companies are the main equipment, toolings and parts supplier to the Swiss watchmaking industry and their authorized service centers.
