  • Latest parts and lubricants by non RSC watch technicians

    Hi all,

This topic may have been posted before... but am weighing the cost and benefit of paying a hefty price to send in 5 of watches for servicing to RSC or outside watch repairers. There has been alot of discussions on sending to RSC vs outside technicians, but do the non RSC watch repairers have the latest updates on watch parts and lubricants which Rolex Geneva constantly makes improvement and advancements on? Rolex Geneva also has a stringent policy of selling watch parts and lubes to non authorised RSCs.

To service any Rolex oyster watch is no more difficult than many other movements.Fact in most cases easier because of the way a Rolex movement is made and its quite a large movement in like say the cal 3135.Now most Rolex movements today are all based on the cal 3135 with or without added complications, like Day Date or no date etc.Movements like the cal 3135 have not changed since 1988 except for some now having the in-house escapement parts. So any good watchmaker could service a Rolex its not rocket science to a watchmaker, the problem lies can he get genuine Rolex parts if any are needed. But with the RSC your watch will be fully stripped down cleaned re-oiled and any parts that are need replaced then you will have a full 2 year warranty plus watch will look almost as good as new. And yes service can be expencive but its only every 5-7 years or perhaps a bit longer if watch is running fine and keeping good time.

Thanks for the reply. Therein lies the possibility of a "franken" watch if serviced by the non RSC should he not be able to obtain genuine Rolex parts

Quite true but with Rolex now refusing to service some of the vintage movements now, using generic parts is the only way to keep them running. And in my experience most generic parts are to the Rolex standard, but its very rare that new parts are needed.Except for normal service parts like gasket seals, crown tubes etc and again have found good quality generic to be as good as Rolex own.
