torn between Explorer1 39mm and ss datejust black dial

is the new explorer 1 really unpopular based on what i've read in this forum so far?

wifey thinks its too plain and unrecognizable as a roley. while i like the simple dial, my only complaint is the no date. at the same time, for the datejust i dun like the bracelet and the motor bazel.

i dun wan the rest of the sports models cuz i wan a clean bezel.

Go for what u like u are the one wearing it. It doesn't matter whether it is easily regconised as a rolex because people who know Rolex will know u are wearing one. If you are just wearing for people to see, then it will be the long standing classic dress daydate or datejust.


Either the new explorer 1 or 14060m I guess. But I'll still say go for what u like. U are wearing it!

in my view, the explorer 1 indeed looks understated. from a distance, it could be mistaken for a seiko or citizen. sorry for putting it that way, but just my frank opinion. plus having no date is a disadvantage. but it really depends on the preference of the buyer. like my dad and sis simply don't fancy the look of the flute bezel on the DJ. also, the wrist size plays a part. for the threadstarter, why don't you consider the date-date? it has a simple bezel too, but dial color selection is pretty limited.

I am not a fan of Explorer I, I would go for DJ! The new DJ II has many new faces and bracelets (jubilee or oyster). More choices to choose as compared to Explorer I.

Sounds like what you want is a DJ 116200 in oyster bracelet.

I think TS prefers brushed metals. Does the 116200 come with such finishing? I thought the oyster bracelets come in polished centre links?

Yup, if don't want polished centre links then have to buy 16200 from the preowned market liao.

To TS: not all sport models come with fully brushed type of oyster bracelet. At least half of existing SS sport models have bracelet with polished centre links.

Buy what you like. Explorer 1 - for those who can appreciate the simple dial.

Here is my Explorer bought a year ago.

thx everyone for all the suggestions/advices. went down to mbs juz now after work to have a look.

after trying out, deciding against the explorer due to the size and non-date (i have a small wrist, i know the trend's on big watches but juz never liked it)

so now it's juz the datejust, basically looking at the 116200 variations. too many choices also headache lol.
in considerations are:
1) concentric black with arabic num
2) black with roman num
3) white with roman num
4) need to go check out the above in blue, din get to see any there

Questions:
1) the concentric black dial had the date in red colour at 7, so all models have the alternate date colours?
2) the DJ's now are all already fitted with the new parachrom spring?
3) dun see any lume on those with the roman num so i assume they can't be read in the dark?
4) was quoted only 10% discount, this the norm for walk-in now?

I just called THG today & was told the price increase is going to implement anytime soon.
If u want lume for DJ, go for "baton bar" hour markers.



If lume not ncsry, go for roman dial which I feel is quite classic as well.

Yup. One of the staff in THG also told me price increase in feb or march
