With the new ceramic casing, do you guys think the 16610 will have a place in history and be a desired piece along the likes of say, the white 1680, one day?

May be; may be not. It's hard to say for sure. Problem is, there are too many out there, and so to have "a place in history" and be "desired" will unlikely be anytime soon. Who knows, may be 30-40 years down the road

The market is flooded with 16610 so its unlikely to be a collector's item in the near future
But the preown value has already appreciated since discon in 2010

The 16610 will always be an ICONIC watch. Before the ceramic......its THE watch many dreamed to own. However, not sure if it will increased in value much......because as said......the market is FLOODED with them. Cheers....P.

which year is R and P ?

Correct me if I'm wrong problmchylde, but 16610 was produced in 1988, and R series was introduced in the same year. As for the p, I believed it was a smiley face.

If I'm not wrong, P series started in 2000.

1987! You mean the old 16610 has been around for 23yr before its discon in 2010?
Hope the new ceramic sub 116610 will similarly stay for 20yr before its discon in 2030
