  • Rolex Sport (Two Tone) TT models

Hi, I am new in this forum. Please forgive me if the question I gonna ask is too novice like.

I got myself a GMT master II C TT at the beginning of the month. I was told the center ring of the bracelet is made out of solid gold (18K if I am not wrong).

Just now I read from a thread in this forum that it is merely gold highlight. Can the Rolex gurus here clarify this for me.

    Thanks.

    It is solid 18kt gold
    Not coated or plated

Confirmed, it's solid gold. Only the older models are using hollow gold. Thus the current TT bracelets are heavier. You may view it from the side that it is not hollow.

        Btw "solid gold" is misleading
It should be "solid 18kt gold"
18kt refer to 18part pure gold and 6part other metals
So by math 18kt gold is actually 75% pure gold

Thanks Skydweller, that is a relief. At first, I thought it is golf plated or something.

That is a minor issue for me. I guess the watch makers have to alloy gold with other metal just to toughen it up. A purer gold is too soft to hold the watch and retain its shape under constant stresses that we might put it though in our daily lifes.

              Yes you are right
If its solid pure gold, it will be too soft as a watch material

If I remember correctly, older ROLEX model do have 'gold plated' bracelet, common one is their 'quartz' watches...
Desire & Craving will never end, save some cash for the rainy day. Just my 2 cents worth.
