Yes, watches are generally cheaper in USA.

Not really true, last year, I got a quote from NYC for Hulk, the price was so-so. Moreover, stocks were limited. As usual, as long as the price (after discounts and conversion) is cheaper than local, grab it! Sometimes, the stocks may not be available. If you can find it, grab it if the price is good.

Dont think there is vat in US
They call it sales tax
The prices indicated on tags are nett prices after this sales tax
Its about 8% in nyc, not sure about canada
Btw they dont give rebate on sales tax

Only 5 states in the US are exempted from state sales tax; Oregon, Montana, New Hampshire, Alaska and Delaware.
So plan your shoppping there if you are heading to these states.

If you're going to Quebec in Canada it will have the highest HST/Federal state tax for yourself to claim back -Its almost 14%. Birks is the main AD for Canada Canadian AD's also tend to discount a bit more whereas US dealers will only discount to their regular customers or customers who buy in significant ammount - 3 or more items they they will kind of package some kind of a discount. US state taxes are usually around the 8 -10% mark all throughout the US eastern part.
