Oytster Perpetual Datejust - new or old ?

hi there.

Can someone tell me more about this watch ?

Its a oyster perpetual datejust and i was told that it is almost new (manufactured this year) and that this chain design is the latest (i don't know much about rolex but i thought the jubilee chain is nicer and newer ?). Regarding the chain design, is that true ?

The salesgirl also showed me this ink imprint by the side of the watch and said this is only available in new watches. The ink will rub off with wear. Is that true ?

How much would this watch cost if its brand new ?

Any info on this watch appreciated. Thanks in advance!

This should be the ROLEX DateJust 116200, IIRC. It's the concentric dial model with Arabic markers. About the 'new' features you were told by the salesgirl, ie the chain design and ink imprint, they are not new. The stainless steel DateJaust models can come in the above bracelet (oyster) or jubilee bracelet.

As for how much it will cost in brand new, it depends which period you are asking. I bought one at high 5K, brand new, when the ADs were still offering 20% for DateJust models (in 2006/07/08). I'm not sure now.

Same as mine but mine is roman numbers. I bought 7k.

I subsequently went to a Rolex shop to check and found that it does come in jubilee chain which would hv been my preferred choice.
The new one costs 8.5k+

I paid 6+. Now regretting but well, result of an impulse buy.

But difference is about 2k bro. With 2k you can get an additional jubilee chain with lots of spare change left. Why regret

My wife got her 178240 SS Datejust Lady 31 at high $5K+ in Aug 2010 & my colleague got the same model a year later at mid $6K+, so it's always gd & impt to do our homework 1st & better to buy early than later, but not impulse buying though.
