  • Stained Lens - Polish or Replace

    Hi,

My wife's DJ lens is stained with something that looks like glue.

I gently washed it, but it won't come off.

I'm hoping it's something like UHU glue & not SuperGlue....but we're not sure

Please advise is it better to self remove - wash + whatever, send for removal/polish, or go back to RSC to change a new lens.

BTW, how much does it cost to change lens at RSC?

    Thanks in Advance

If you have picture of the stain, it would help.

If it's glue and waterbased, wet it with water and it will soften and you can wipe it away easily. If it's solvenbased glue, use solvent/you wife nail polish remover, and it can be removed as well.

If the stain is only visible from certain light angle, it's probably water mark on your crystal. In some areas, water can be 'hard'. Those deposits are Calcium. Use glass cleaner liquid, lime/lemon juice can help. No big issue to remove them.

Your lens, is it acrylic or sapphire ?

i assumed it was acrylic since sapphire is highly unlikely to have such problems.

Thanks for all advice...really appreciate it

            1. Bot in 1998 - I assume it's sapphire.

            2. Washed with water...didn't budge

            3. Nail polish remover? Will it tarnish the bezel, case bracelet? Else how to remove after using?

            4. Anybody knows how much to send for a. Polish; b. Replace at RSC

try lighter fluid (like zippo) it will soften it and use a clean cotton cloth to get rid of the sticky dirt....

I must have disclaimer...do it at your own risk...

                        Thanks for advice again.

Seriously, we dun know, was on the table with lots of stationery...that's why guess it's either UHU or Super Glue.

                        May try lighter fluid 1st....
