Disagree on this... Skydweller just came in the market late 2012, and the current SkyD models' prices are sky high. common people like me wish to buy but cannot afford lah.

Personally I buy watches just to pamper myself and do not see it as a medium for investment ...

Agreed! Its trendy model. ROLEX Green Hulk.

But If seriously want to sell it off to earn $$ then choose those limited edition Rolex. And keep it till its price raising up.

If the watch is for investment, you probably cannot wear it. Isn't it the worst feeling that you have the most valuable piece but u cannot wear it cos once u do the value goes down?

So just buy what you like, wear it the way you like it and when you like it. If value goes up, bonus for you.

                  Cheers

if you seek 'investment' in watches, never get brand new pieces direct from ADs

the AD's margin of rolex is as high as 40% of retail price
the margin for other brands of similar tier eg omega, breitling, cartier are higher about 50-60%

lower tier brands like longines, tag heuer, oris, fortis, seiko are much worse, margin is as high as 70-80%
that's why resale value of these low tier brands are so bad (usually ~1/3 of retail price)

like cars, the first owners always lose the most

if you want 'good investment', get relatively new preown rolex (sports models typically retains value better than DJ models) in mint condition with full set paper and box
example of these are submariner, gmt2c, daytona

Excluding rare pieces, I agd wth yr observation. Watch, to me, is a heart of desire stuff not as a vehicle 4 investment return. Equities, commodities, properties & managing business are better investment vehicles historically speaking verses that of watches ... this is my personal preference wth usual std mkt disclaimer applicable here.. do consult yr financial consultant prior to enter such investment vehicles.

New: only limited Patek complication will go up
Used: Rolex over 4-5 yrs will not lose value (except TT, Milgaus). Vintage Rolex sport (1610, 16800, etc) will go up
Every other used watch is a guess as they do not have adequate after-market. Preowned Rolex is the closest thing to cash. AP, Patek, VC may sell for higher but the price spread is huge.
                              Rolex Sub 16610
                              Rolex Explorer 14270
                              Rolex Yacht-Master 16622
                              Rolex DJ 116200
                              Patek Philippe 3820R
It's hard to be a married watch collector

Now SGD is all time strong so cheaper to buy watch to invest.
Any of these used professional SS Rolex: GMT, EX2, Sub, DSSD & Daytona just wear and keep if from any major mishaps. Few yrs down the road when other major currencies recover and SGD weakens these watches may give u signification returns.
