sad to hear, but the blame (frankly) is shared equally between those who left it unattended, and the crook who took advantage of the situation.
Its his luck lah.. I remember some years back during my trip to Aus, there this ang mo who took off his sub and left it unattended on a bench when he go swimming and yet no one ard there dare to take it.

If it was a theft case, and was reported to the Police, rest assured that RSC and the pawnshop association will be alerted. Unless the culprit wears it for life and the watch remains in immaculate condition, it will be discovered and found, through time.
i think there is hope yet.....if i am not wrong, the moment we make a police report, the S/N would be circulated to RSC and pawnshops....and when the chap tries to pawn it, the police would be notified. if the fella sells it to someone successfully, they would then try to have it verified at RSC and when that happens, the loop is closed once again, the police would be notified, if the person buys it off and tries to service it again some time later, the police may also be notified....and then the poor buyer got to explain how he came to possess this watch......but i am not sure if those people who services watches are on the lookout also i.e., 3rd party service shops, maybe a good idea to tell those people to look out as well..??/
Anyway, hard luck for this case....Singapore is one of the places that we cannot even sleep without having the door locked, gate double locked and maybe some form of security system.....
I stay in thailand quite often and when i go to my frens place to stay.....i am surprised that they dont even lock the main gate, the living room gates are not even closed....needless to say, the glass doors not drawn and closed.....i couldnt sleep that first night.....and the best part....nothing is stolen.....thats a 3rd world country for you as compared to singapore....somethings we really have to learn.....
